Changing Our Name

Hi everyone! I have officially become a WE...My sisters will now be an official part of the business!!! I am very excited to embark on this journey. We will be updating pricing and logo information in the next couple of days. I am going to miss my SWEET ME OFF MY FEET name *tears*, which my sister Yanavith came up with..and now together we have come up with Sisterly Love Bake Shop. We tried to keep up both Sweet Me Off My Feet and Sisterly Love Cupcakes going at the same time and quite frankly it was exhausting. Because of that reason we became Sisterly Love Bake Shop which allows us to merge both entities and offer an array of services.

You can also now find us through our .com which is www.sisterlylovebakeshop.com.

Thanks for your support and please excuse the confusion. We are looking forward to the many more wonderful events and delectable treats to create so please check often!!!!

Black and Yellow Damask Birthday

My very best friend turned thirty! Vasty is such a beautiful person inside and out that my sister and I gathered everyone to throw her a surprise party! One of our great friends let us borrow her home for the event! Vasty had originally wanted to have a huge event since it is a milestone moment for her, for many many reasons. Unfortunately she was unable to have it and that's were we stepped in, we couldn't go on without making a big deal out of it. Read on for what is sure to be the longest but best entry yet!!!

We decided to go with a black and yellow damask theme. We felt it was sophisticated and grown up. The table runners were purchased at eFavormart.com. These were a steal and they added so much to the tablescape.
For the centerpieces, we bought flowers at Albertsons, they always have gorgeous flowers. We used yellow and white spider blooms and yellow roses.  The Dollar Tree is amazing spot to shop when on a budget. If they don't have one near by don't fret they deliver! That's amazing especially since they might only have a few items of what you want on hand, you dong have to go hunting down store by store. The lemons added a great touch as did the vellum damask covered votive holders.
The damask wraps were created on photoshop and printed on vellum. The votive candle holders I had purchased a while back at Big Lots and I also had the battery operated tea lights also purchased at the Dollar Tree (two for a buck!).
The black plates I used as chargers were also purchased at the Dollar Tree (told you it was a great place). We used black napkins and yellow flatware from Party City along with the yellow plates. The flower napkin rings were a great a touch. I printed a damask pattern on yellow paper and cut our 3" strips and place a tissue pom pom flower. We got the tutorial for the flowers from Martha Stewart.
The banner that says "Happy Birthday Vasty" was created in photoshop as well and printed on the same yellow paper as the napkin rings.

With the help of my sisters we created a fabulous dessert table. We had cupcakes, cupcakes, and more cupcakes. We had chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting, lemon cupcakes filled with lemon cream, and coconut cupcakes with butter cream frosting and coconut flakes. I also made my staple sugar cookie favors. I decided it to be a simple V shape for Vasty's name. I tied them with black ribbon and finished them off with a yellow rhinestone. The cookie stand was purchased at Macy's. All cupcake liners were purchased at the fabulous etsy store Sweetestelle. She is an amazing vendor and her items are packaged ans shift swiftly and in great condition. The pineapple cheesecakes flew off the cake stand! I used Bakerella's mini cherry cheesecake recipe.

We also bought some rice crispy treats and drizzled them with yellow and black candy melts. We unwrapped the pre-packaged hostess yellow zingers, not everything has to be home made ;) I also dipped marshmallows in yellow candy melts and sprinkles black sprinkles (from sweetestelles as well). The marshmallows were put in a vase filled with lemon heads for a little pizazz. The back drop for the dessert table looked so great. I took a 3 yards of yellow fabric and covered with different size flowers. The flowers were a lot of work but so worth it. I used a tutorial from Jesi Haack that shows you step by step how to create them. Again the "Sweets" banner was created in photoshop and printed on yellow paper. The three tiered stands were purchased at target, and the white plates at the Dollar Tree.  All other cake stands and platters were purchased at different stores like Macy's and Marshall's and Ross. On this picture you can barely see the Tootsie Roll Pops covered with black tissue paper and tied with yellow ribbon and finished off with a yellow rhinestone. I also made Cake Balls, and chocolate covered pretzels.

The dessert shots were a hit. I bought the shot glasses at Macy's and I LOVE them!!! They are so cute. I also bought the dessert spoons at Macy's. I just love Macys's. The dessert shots were so yummy. I made Strawberry Shortcake Shot. It has vanilla pudding, strawberry, pound cake squares, and topped off with whipped cream.  The Chocolate Brownie shot had chocolate pudding, brownie squares, fudge, and topped off with whipped cream. And last but not least and my favorite was the Caramel Banana Shot, this one had banana pudding, pound cake squares, banana slice, caramel, and topped with whipped cream. I made twelve of each and they were all gone!

My dessert table was truly inspired by one of my favorite cake artists Melody from My Sweet and Saucy. She is amazing! My cake was also inspired by one of hers. The cake was a chocolate cake filled with strawberry cream cheese filling and covered with buttercream. The yellow anemone flower was the first one of its kind  I ever made and I was ecstatic with the results of the flower and the overall look of the cake. The yellow color on the black damask wrap around the cake looked marvelous.

My drink station was improvised on the spot since I was expecting a flat surface like I had for the sweets table but I love the way it turned out! My "Drinks" banner is another one of those photoshop creations.  I had two plastic water dispensers with Pineapple Water made with fresh pineapples (thanks Mommy!!!) it was sooo yummy. I also added some flowers to the back drop for that pizazz. I also made the water labels in photoshop and they looked great on those water bottles. The two glass water dispensers with their stands were purchased at Macy's. They looked so great! I used those for the cocktails. I made Fuzzy Navels and Lemon Drop Martinis. They were both yummy. The cup stand was used to be a white metal stand or shelf we had laying around and I spray painted it and added the yellow ribbon to some foam boards since its like a rack it wouldn't let the cups stand without tippin' over. I think its looks cool :) I took clear cups and dipped the rims in light corn syrup and then yellow and black sprinkles.

I made this cool backdrop sewing black and yellow streamers together and adding another banner that says "Say Cheese". Guests really had fun with this since they had not seen one before. I made lips, uni brows, mustaches, glasses, and beards for them to use as props. I took photoshop brushes and printed them out and glued them to wooden sticks. The backdrop idea came from How Does She? The birthday girl is in the third middle picture.

I just want to thank all those who pitched in for this event! You guys are truly amazing and wonderful for doing this for our beloved Vasty. This has been one of my best parties so far and I had so much fun baking and creating the final layout and presentation of this party!

Yellow and White Damask Cake

This was my first time trying to do the damask pattern on a cake. It was so much fun and I'm pleased with the design. The cake is an 8x8 inch square chocolate cake with raspberry filling from scratch. The cake is covered with buttercream and the damask pattern is also buttercream.

Lace Square Cake

This is a cake dummy. I used this cake in my demo audition tape for TLC's Cake Boss. I showed how to add the lace and color with shimmer dust. The cake is covered with fondant and I added a sugar peony that I had left over from the wedding cake. The cake stand is from the Martha Stewart Collection at Macy's.

50th Anniversarry Cake

This cake was the best one I have ever made! It was so adorable I didn't want to part with it!!!! I made this cake for one of our closest friends. Her pastor and his wife were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary! I really enjoy the end result of the sugar flower making process. It can be difficult especially since I'm trying to learn from videos. This cake was three tiered lemon cake with raspberry filling, with now my all time favorite butter vanilla buttercream from Sharon Zambito from SugarEdProductions. I have almost all of her videos, she is amazing and I have learned so much from her.

The cake has 6 sugar roses that I hand painted gold. I also hand painted the leaves and the 50 for the topper. The gold paint I purchased at Global Sugar Art. I also made sugar pearls strings for the border at the bottom of each tier. The pearls were made from a pearl mold dusted with Wilton Gold Shimmer. The leaves on the cake have the leaf patter which was created with a leaf veiner that I purchased at California Cakes in Redlands California. They have such a great shop!

I hope you enjoy the cake as much as I do!

Peony Cake Details

This is one of my favorite cakes ever. It took me forever to complete but it was so worth it. I missed the wedding since I was busy making the cake. The bride loved the cake on so did the guest which is all that matters. The middle cake is a three tiered white cake filled with cheesecake strawberry mousse filling. The two sides are filled with peach mousse filling.

The flowers took the most time to make but also gave me the most sense of accomplishment. I used a video by Nicholas Lodge to learn how to make the flowers. I bought most of my supplies for the flowers at Global SugarArt online merchant including the DVD for the flowers.

The cake also had some  lace embellishments made out of gumpaste and fondant mixture. The lace mold were purchased at Elegant Lace Impressions. They were worth the investment. They came out beautiful. The three tiered cake has a scalloped lace on all three tiers and on the top it has a lace medallion as do the two side cakes.

Lace and Peony Wedding Cake

Sneak peek at the wedding cake I am making for a friend and church. She had no idea what she wanted so it allowed me to experiment. I will post more pics on a later post and will give details on tools and techniques.

Mommy's Birthday

We had never thrown a party for my mom’s birthday before. My sister and I decided to put together a Pink, red, birdie, theme for her. The cake in the middle picture was done by me. I am very proud of this cake. It was some work but I pushed myself beyond my expertise.
We had a dessert buffet that I put together. I baked chocolate chips cookies, mini cheesecakes, chocolate covered strawberries, brownies, cupcakes and sugar cookies. It was beautifully displayed on red plates and platters most of them from Target.

I made pink lemonade, and fruit punch and added strawberries to the drink dispenser. The drink dispensers were a steal from Wal-Mart. For food we had an array of sandwiches with chips.

The centerpieces were made from branches and tissue paper flowers. We affixed them to the branches with glue dots. We had pink table covers and red plates and cups. .We also hung pink and red hearts and tissue pom-poms from the ceiling.

Beach Themed Bridal Shower Cake

I like this cake because it allowed me to be more creative. I had never worked with gumpaste before so I was experimenting. I used ½ gumpaste and ½ fondant mixture. I followed a tutorial online for the flowers. I painted them after with pearl dust but it didn’t work, then I added water to the pearl dust and that was not a good idea either. It did the trick but it made the flower soggy and droopy. For the surfboard I used a cookie cutter. The beach ball and the bathing suit are my favorite pieces.

Bridal Shower

These were my first cookies for a bridal shower. The colors were purple and white. The bride’s sister Nicky asked for hearts, engagement ring, cake, and wedding bell shaped cookies. I threw in the square just because ;) The diamond on the ring has sprinkles just to add some bling. I used a purple platter to display the cakes, squares, and bells. I bought the platter at Target. I also bought the containers at target. I used Styrofoam for the base and inserted the cookie lollies and lined the container with purple tissue paper.

Little Mermaid Party

I recently helped plan a Little Mermaid Party for a friend’s daughter. It was so much fun to plan and the guests loved all the small details.  A lot of hours went into the birthday party but the results were worth it. I wasn’t able to get pictures of all of the décor just the cupcakes and cookies that I made for the event.
There were five different designs for the cookies. There were sea horses, starfish, shells, a number 4, and a round that had an edible image o designed in Photoshop. The tags for the cookies were also designed in Photoshop.
I wasn’t able to get a good picture of the tablescape, but the table had a bright red sequin table cloth and paper lanterns in red, green, and turquoise were hung from the ceiling. Also colored starfish were hung.

Mexican Fiesta

I absolutely love the party my sister Yanavith put together for my sister and I. It was a sophisticated fiesta sans the burros and piñatas. She really thought of all the details. Thanks sissy I love you!!!

My mom found a steal at Ross store and grabbed all the colorful margarita cups and goblets. They were in shades of purple, pink, green, red, and yellow. We found some lace table overlays at Wal-Mart and picked them right up. They added an old Spanish flair.

She spent days making the flowers for the centerpieces and the hanging pomanders which are my favorite elements. She designed her concept and I just helped her put it together. The centerpieces were a tall cylinder vase I had already purchased at the DollarTree. The flowers were attached to s Styrofoam base. We finished the centerpiece off with a piece of scrapbook paper and whole punched the edges with a Martha Stewart whole punch. We had one at each tables. The paper plates in different colors were set at each table. We had also scattered flowers on the tables. For favors we had to think quickly on our feet because we forgot about them. We bought some dulce de leche suckers, I think they were 10 for $1 dollar and simply tied some ribbon in coordinating colors.

The pomander balls were the focus and we highlighted them with hanging banners. We cut squares and whole punched them with the Martha Stewart punch and strung them on orange ribbon.

My sister printed a little Mexican Fiesta sign and put it in another Dollar Tree find. The frame had stripes in the coordinating colors.

I love, love this party! Hope you enjoy it too.

Old Pics Revisited

These cookies were made for a very special friend. She was having her first granddaughter Gemma. I made these cookies for her Halloween Shower with still a babyish touch. I also made her a onesie ice cream cake exactly like the cookies, it was precious but I did not get any pics :(

Pink/Brown Baby Shower

I was honored to be the host of one of my dear friends and co-workers. This was her first baby and I wanted to make the event beautiful and memorable. She had no idea what she wanted or what theme she should have. We came up with pink and brown for colors and we also wanted to incorporate baby feet into the theme. As soon as I had some direction I searched everywhere for inspiration and this is the end result.

I made paper chains using pink, brown, and white card stock. I created the It's A Girl hanging circles at the ends of the chains. I hung them from the ceiling all over the room. (I had to take out all of my furniture to accommodate for all the guests, and when I say we I mean my dad and brother). I also hung a set from Party City that included the pink streamers and the ball in the center of the room. I customized the ball and streamers by replacing the hanging circle from the ball, it was yellow, green, and pink , to one of the ones I made. Some tables had pink tablecloths with a brown runner and vice versa. Plates, forks, cups, and napkins were all pink or brown. A sweet baby foot cookie was at each place setting.

I also put together a candy buffet station. The "Sweets" banner that I made in Photoshop matched the invitations. All the candy was and cookies were pink and brown with a hint of white. I had malt balls, animal cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, Dove's Bliss Chocolates, and some pink and brown Mexican candy. The pink candy bags were personalized with a label and some of the jars had labels also. The baby feet pretzel rods were done using a Wilton Mold. I also used the mold to make the toppers for the cupcakes.

The centerpieces were created using pink and white carnations, baby's breath, and hot pink roses. The bubble vases were purchased at the dollar store and adorned with pink and brown ribbon. I set two vases per table for a total of 12 vases.

I made two cakes one left and one right baby foot. The cakes were made with the paisley Wilton Pan Set. One cake was filled with strawberries and the other with peaches. It was covered with PuraWhip. The baby foot designed was free handed and not too difficult to achieve. I decorated the cupcake stand with dangling crystal ribbon. The cupcakes were the mother-to-be's favorite, Pillsbury Funfetti. I used Purawhip to ice the cakes and topped them with baby feet made out of chocolate using a mold. I love how the balloons served as a backdrop and the ultrasound of Baby Mia made it just perfect. I scattered several frames of Baby Mia throughout the room.

Another item that item that is just too cute is this Pin the Pacifier on the Baby game. The baby and pacifier images were obtained online (cannot remember where) and i enlarged it in Photoshop and mounted in onto the pink foam board. Each pacifier had a number and a piece of double sided tape. This game was a hit!

All of these goodies I created in Photoshop. Some of the brushes I made using clip art and others I found free online. The invitation was one of the first things I made and everything else soon followed. The invite insert was one of my favorites. It asked each guest to bring diapers and wipes for a chance to enter a drawing for a cool prize. Then the raffle ticket was created to write down the name of each guest who participated. The candy bag labels were printed on sticker paper and punched with a scallop paper punch. The thank you tags for the cookies were also cut out with the scallop punch. The napkin wraps were used to wrap a pink and brown napkin and a fork. The candy buffet labels were printed on card stock and cut by hand, as well as the paper chain hanging decorations. I used Boring Showers font for every item from the baby shower.

21st Birthday!

My sister turned 21 this past October (I’m sooooo behind on blogging!) We hadn’t made a big deal of her birthday for a while; don’t know why we just hadn’t. This year we tried to do something a little more special. I don’t get paid until the 10th of every month (only bad thing ‘bout working for a school district) so usually she doesn’t get gifts until then. Her birthday is the 3rd. So yes, we’re often late. This year we were able to get gifts the same day for her to open. She felt extra special and she got some nice gifts.

Since her day was going to be special well then so should her cake right? Right! So I looked on CakeCentral where I like to go for inspiration, and fell in love with a cake that was black and green. I went with a lighter green and incorporated a soft pink. The bottom tier is 4 layers of 10” rounds filled with strawberries, and the top 2 layers of 8” rounds filled with cream cheese and strawberries.

The bottom tier was covered in green marshmallow fondant and decorated with pink and black balls pressed onto the sides of the cake. I wanted them to look more like pearls but ended up looking like M&Ms J The top tier was covered in black marshmallow fondant and decorated with different size circles of fondant. I used a Wilton Impression Mat (Happy Birthday) to make an impression on the top of the tier. I finished it off with a 21 made out of pink fondant and her name, Diana, spelled out with pink and black fondant. The board was also covered with green fondant and a black ribbon border around it.

I really love this cake. It was sooo much work but sooo worth it. Enjoy leave me some comments, I love to hear from you!!!

Baby Shower Rattle Cake

This rattle cake was a last minute order. It was for a baby girl. I decided to go with a pale pink and bright yellow. Despite the time crunch it was a very cute cake.

1. The first step is to bake the cake and level it. I baked a 12 in and 6 in cakes.

2. In an electric mixer I whip the PuraWhip I use for almoslt all my cakes. (I love this because its light and the perfect sweetness to it) I pick this up at Smart&Final for about 3 dollars.

3. I wrapped a Wilton stacking tube with yellow ribbon and set it aside.

4. I sliced about 4 pints of strawberries..it was a pretty big cake.

5. Mix all your strawberries with about 4 cups of the whipped cream you just whipped.

6. Fill the cakes with the strawberry and whipped cream mixture. Not to the edges leave about 1/4 of an edge..that way when you frost it you dont get any strawberries spilling out. When you frost it then fill in the gap :)

7. Color your icing the desired color...this case pale pink. I used Wilton Rose Color.

8. Frost the cake...I use a piping bag 16-18 in ones from Wilton. I also use a large tip No. 789
to frost the cake...also a turntable is a must!

Finishing touches

Smooth it out..as much as you can. I added a shell border at the bottom and a star border on top. I also used a round tip to write It's a Girl! I also used edible pink pearls that I had to put on every star I made on the top. I also added them to the letters. I inserted the middle rod and tied a pink ribbon to finish it off.
